Inside Universal's new Volcano Bay

“Water is life. Life is Joy.” That’s the motto at Orlando‘s newest park, Volcano Bay, set to open May 25, 2017. This latest offering from Universal Orlando Resort is taking an innovative approach to the water park industry to make the guest experience the best it can be.

The 30-acre “water theme park” will open with 18 different attractions, many of them emanating from the 200-foot Krakatau Volcano at its center. Thrill-seekers have body slides and water coasters, like the Krakatau Aqua Coaster or the 70-degree Ko’okiri Body Plunge, while those looking for a more relaxed experience can soak up the sun on sandy Waturi Beach, float in the Reef (a leisure pool with its own private waterfall) or take a leisurely ride on Kopiko Wai Winding River.

But what really sets this park apart from its regional competitors is its clever use of technology. As visitors first enter the park, they’ll be given a waterproof and wearable TapuTapu. This electronic wristband can be scanned at ride entry totems throughout the park to virtually wait in line for rides and attractions.

While bobbing in the multidirectional wave pool or catching some rays, the TapuTapu gives a notification when it’s time to ride. This special wristband also unlocks interactive surprises throughout the park.

Tickets to Volcano Bay can be purchased solo or as part of the Universal Orlando 3-Pack, with entrance to Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure.
